By the end of 2018, my brother Brad was diagnosed with Stage Four Pancreatic Cancer, just before his 52nd Birthday. Despite his brave fight, he only lived for another year after that.
But what always remains is the memory of the love he gave, and more so, the love he received.
Particularly one person comes to mind, especially since she and Brad had never met. That person is Betsy Carroll, a dear friend for many years.
My brother lived in Kirkland, Washington, when I flew up to visit him during his time of treatment. I learned a lot about the rigor of chemo therapy and the strain it put on the body. Brad showed me all the medication he needed to take daily, and the supplements, Vitamins and nutritional shakes he was to have regularly.
Recognizing the need…
When I got back to Florida, I casually mentioned about his regimen during a get-together with friends, and how costly it was to purchase the brand name shakes that just about every patient has come to know about.
and jumping in!
Without any spur of hesitation, Betsy Carroll decided she would ship several cases of nutritional shakes to him, as she was at the time an independent distributor for nutritional supplements.
What she sent was of tremendous value, not just monetary, but as emotional support to Brad and our family. It was a generous gesture of kindness and a showing of true friendship.
Betsy has always been a happy person, someone who knows how to cheer you up. And she is never a stranger to helping someone. Between you and I: she’s also funny and super intelligent. She loves animals, she’s creative, and she’ll inspire anybody with her witty remarks. Her heart is huge, and she’ll never say a bad word about anybody.
